The Shop

The Real Randolph's Shop

Randolph WorkingHello. And welcome to Randolph's shop. Of all the possible reasons for establishing and maintaining a website, mine is the crassest. I am doing this for no other reason than to brag about my metalworking shop. And, hopefully, to find others with similar interests.

I can't say if having a vocation and avocation that are the same is an indication of shallow character or if I am just plain lucky but, without evidence to the contrary, I will accept that I am lucky. My shop, as I tell visitors, is what I do and where I do it.

Randolph and NanThis is a working shop. I have a clientele of customers for whom I provide regular machining and welding services and, better knock on wood here, I am never without work to do in the shop. The jobs I am asked to do are many and varied, from machining precision test fixtures for a major manufacturer of earth moving equipment to welding up a broken ladder from a swimming pool. I never accept or turn down a job over the telephone unless it involves crawling underneath a motor vehicle. I've been there and done that.

I am fortunate, too, in that I am married to a woman who understands that I need my shop. She keeps my records and helps me keep the shop clean and makes me do the occasional onerous job that I would otherwise keep putting off. -Randolph Bulgin
